Buddha
From Reclining Buddha Statue - Origin Unknown
I walked among the ruins
And saw the Buddha
Lying on his side.
He looked like he
Was trying to hide
Among the lush and flowering
Greenness of the shrubs.
I walked the path beside him,
Pried in every moldering crack
For signs of living creatures.
There was a nest of birds,
A lizard dressed in shiny black,
A colony of bees.
I fell on my knees
And sought a place
To worship,
Thought to please
The ancient Creator,
To ease this heart
That walks along
A Buddha lying on his side.
